How do you manage your thoughts?

Can you manage your thoughts to create a more peaceful day?

We often believe our thoughts and do not even question the truth behind them.

Mostly they are negative because the brain randomly generates them and the purpose of the brain is to keep us safe. So it will always go to “the worst case scenario” .

How often do you catastrophise when you don’t even have all the facts?

This is an instinct but one when you become aware of it you can start to change and choose other options.

Start this by bringing awareness to the thought and asking some questions.

These are a set of questions that I use when I want to get clarity and feel differently about something;

It’s the work of a lady called Byron Katie

  1. Is it true ? ( the thought)
  2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true?
  3. How do you feel when you believe that thought ?
  4. Who would you be without that thought ?

For example when I started thinking about writing this blog and launching it , here’s the conversation I had :

No one will be interested in what I have to say – I didn’t know until I started

So therefor I didn’t know if 1 or 2 was true( although I still was thinking that )

When I believed that thought I felt rotten ( 3)

If I didn’t have that thought I would be brave and creative and a person who believed that I might be able to help someone believe in themselves (4)

See how it works ?

This helps you look at the thought or belief and get a new perspective on the thought ,belief or idea about something which often is causing us pain and discomfort.

Try it the next time you are feeling stuck and it will make you really question rather than just believe, and I hope give you a different perspective or opinion on something which may have been troubling you.
